An Answer to Exploitative Coaching Centres
SATHEE Portal offers quality education to students preparing for competitive exams
The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education in collaboration with IIT Kanpur has started SATHEE (Self-Assessment, Test and Help for Entrance Examination) portal to provide quality education to every student who intend to participate in competitive Education such as JEE, NEET and various State level Engineering and other Examinations.
Ministry of Education has written to all State/UTs to inform educators and students about this facility which can be used for competitive examinations preparation and for knowledge enhancement.
To support students preparing for JEE and other engineering examinations, a 45 days crash course of JEE has been launched on 21st November 2023 curated by IIT toppers, academicians and subject experts. This crash course is available in 5 language including English.
All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has developed AI based translation tool. This tool supports 22 Indian languages. Several workshops/Seminars have been organized in institutions/colleges to create awareness about this tool and its utility.
SATHEE for Schools combines both the NCERT studies and JEE learning standards into an extensive curriculum, allowing one to find content that helps the teaching needs and students score well in board exams as well as JEE.
Overall, it provides:
• Preparation material for entrance exams including JEE and NEET. It will help students gain access to training and coaching for competitive examinations for free
• Video solutions in regional languages for entrance exams. It provides free learning resources, including 800 videos in 12 regional languages. Students learn the concepts and focus on their weak topics so they feel confident to give any exams by watching videos prepared by IIT and IISc faculty members
• JEE and NEET entrance exam preparation ideas webinars
• Students’ stories of struggles and achievement
• Solve with me sessions
• Motivational sessions
As on 12th December, 2023, there are 60,000+ students registered on the SATHEE platform, according to the Union Minister of State for Education, Dr. Subhas Sarkar.
The programme, it may be noted, was unveiled on 6 March 2023 by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The event was also live streamed on the official YouTube channel of UGC.
The programme was welcomed universally, coming as it did at a time when the government was urged to take note of huge exploitation of candidates aspiring for higher education in renowned institutions like IITs, IIMs, Medical and Engineering institutions by Private coaching centres.
As it is, National Education Policy 2020 focuses on regular formative assessment for learning rather than the summative assessment that encourages today’s ‘coaching culture’.
In line with this, Ministry of Education had already launched Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) Prabha, which has a dedicated Free-To-Air DTH Channel (IITPAL) meant for Class XI and Class XII Students that regularly updates and broadcasts high quality, visually and graphically enriched content/ tutorial with the aim of preparing students aspiring for competitive exams such as Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
SATHEE is yet another App in this direction.
